Dove Workshop #0

· 3 min read

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting our first workshop for a small group of friends and partners. It was amazing to meet everyone in person -- many of whom we have been working with remotely for a long time!

The concept of Dove was first mooted about 2 years back. Back then, we didn't have snazzy terms like "multichain computing", "event equivalence" and the diagrams that we have today to explain our thoughts, just a conviction that Dove would be helpful in a ballooning multi-chain world.

It took us many iterations to get to the content presented, and we're very glad for an opportunity to articulate these in person.

Here's a quick recap of what was presented. The slides presented are linked here and also on our homepage:

  • There are many headaches in crypto today (fragmentation, poor decentralization, bridging limitations) that could be addressed by event equivalence. Dove provides a decentralized computer that orders and writes events from all sources into one chain. To accomplish that, we need to observe, timestamp, confirm and uniquely order potential events. Those events are then made accessible to code for compute, and for transactions to be triggered. Slides

  • Dove abstracts away multichain complexity. With The Nest, we get a single hub for multichain development, that also serves as a control center overlooking staking and governance for decentralized flocks of observers and executors -- the birds. The Nest opens up the possibilities for new interchain token standards (DRC-20) and more. Since we're at it, why stop at one Dove chain? Slides

  • We then dug deeper into the Dove stack and took a tour around the architecture of Dove: Contracts, Events, Observers & Executors. Slides

  • Rounding off, what would the developer experience look like on Dove? We went through a toy problem to experience what the cross-chain developer experience looks like when you have access to a single programmable event ledger, single gas currency and chain abstraction. Yes, do everything on a single contract on Dove! Slides

It was lovely to share a preview of what we have been working on, and to hear thoughts and feedback from everyone gathered in the same room.

We can't wait to dive deeper into the design of Dove over the next couple of blog posts, and to work with you to bring more of Dove into the world.

Again, a heartfelt thank you to all who joined -- see you at the next one! ❤️

Nerds forgot to take photos at the event, but here's one of Andrew with a fresh haircut.
